happy little spring things

The kids and I brought our rocking chairs out to the porch, and we've been spending some time there after breakfast, just watching all the birds and enjoying the earth's waking up. The kids don't sit for long, but I could happily spend hours out there with my knitting! Among all the bids, our geese have returned! We're all looking forward to the baby water fowl we see each year - the ducklings, and hopefully some goslings again.

The garden is waking up, too. I thought I lost the rhubarb to the flooding, but here it is, hardy as ever.

Little spinach is sprouting, along with all the other cold-hardy seeds we planted a few weeks ago.  Oh how we're looking forward to fresh homegrown greens again.

All the other babies here are growing fast, too.

It's such a joy to watch all this beauty, and sometimes I still can't believe how fortunate I am to be part of it every day. I hope you're surrounded by happy things wherever you are, too.

  1. It really is a blessed life we lead, isn't it? Especially when there is so much promise and brightness in the form of spring!! Our spinach looks identical to yours--and I cannot wait for them to get bigger so I can eat them!! I am glad the rhubarb survived. What a tenacious plant! Ours is already almost a foot tall, I bet. Matt made rhubarb wine which we've been sampling over the winter. Its delish. We look forward to the first harvest and making some more.

Birds make me so happy. What a lovely morning routine. A perfect way to set the tone for the day with calm and wonder.

  2. I have been gifted some chicks this year from one of the preschools that I visit with my animals. They like the hatching but don't really have facilities to keep the chickens. I will be bringing home four hatchlings in a week when we are back from vacation. Then it is shearing time, another of my spring favorites. My whole world is greening up for the occasion!

  3. There is so much to see and watch and marvel at, sad too few people take the time!
