Easter, Et cetera

We had a quiet, low-key Easter day this year, dyeing eggs with turmeric and crushed red grapes, and enjoying Easter treats and each other. The weather has been keeping us indoors quite a bit, but luckily we have much to do here; a puppy (look how big she's getting!) to entertain us and chicks in the brooder to care for.

I finished a tea party top for my littlest in a yellow lightweight yarn, for those warmer, but still cool-ish days that are surely coming our way.

This weekend I'm hoping to get the onions and potatoes all planted out. Before the storms, we seeded carrots, radishes, spinach, lettuce, peas, and mustard greens in the garden beds, and today I spied some seedlings popping up! How wonderful, the promise of spring.

  1. How did I miss your puppy!?! With all of the problems you've had with predators, a livestock guardian dog is the perfect solution. Your babes are adorable, as usual.

  4. Also a note: Beet juice is a great dye. Another one is turmeric. If you have access to elderberries, they are great, too. It oxidizes from a reddish color to a cool purple.

  5. Turmeric and grapes--how clever you are! That photo of the puppy hug is just about precious beyond words. I am glad you had a nice, quiet Easter at home! We've got little seedlings starting to poke up, too, and its SO exciting. Every single time.
