in my kitchen {a week of food}

I thought it might be fun to devote a whole week to posting about some recipes and food we've been enjoying.

So, kicking off a week of food...

Baby and I spent a morning making homemade marshmallows using a recipe from this book. It was a lot of fun (a bit like making candy or taffy, I imagine) and they are super yummy. I really wanted to roast some in our new-old chiminea, but the state-wide fire ban put a damper on that plan. I'm now thinking a chocolate marshmallow cake is in order, and when the ban lifts, we can make another batch of marshmallows to celebrate!

It was a good lesson that the making of things is really more about the process than the product. (Especially when half of the product ends up in tiny pieces, near sticky baby feet, or on the floor).

  1. Awesome and inspiring! Thank you. I've always wondered about making marshmallows, so glad to see it, especially with the cutest helper you could ever have. :)

  5. Oh how wonderful! I will definitely be trying that out!

    Hope you're staying safe, smoke and fire free up there...it's all just too dry and scary these days...too many fires to keep track of :-( I do think that another batch of marshmallows would be a great way to celebrate once you get some rain...maybe I'll do the same here :-)

    1. Oh, thank you for thinking of us! So far, we are in the clear here, but it is scary! So much of the state is burning...I can't imagine having to evacuate with all our animals - oy.

  6. That looks like lots of fun...I'd like to try my hand at it. And my girl would love to be the taste tester.
    We've had a very smoky day--a nearby fire had us choking with the thickness of the smoke--but then a gentle rain brought some relief. More rain, please!

  7. Baby fingers making and eating marshmallows?? This could not possibly get any cuter. I probably won't make the marshmallows, but still praying on the baby...

    Thank you for sharing your beautiful life, Jaime.
