that should do us...
...for the rest of winter! There's such a comfort in having a well-stocked barn (or garage for now, in our case) with enough hay and feed for the animals in the wintriest months to come. I'm not one for the stress of having to go out at the last minute to get something because it's run out (been there, didn't like it, don't want to go back), so it just feels right when we strive to be well-stocked; Thus also being well-prepared. Finances don't always allow for such a luxury, but it seems to me it saves us in the long run - time, sanity, gas - and therefore money as well.
Well-stocked and well-prepared. Yes, there's most certainly comfort in this.

That hay looks delicious! I hope your animals will remember their manners and thank you properly for such delicious grub. Well done, stocking up. Peace of mind is worth a very great deal indeed...
ReplyDeleteIt really does, doesn't it?! I have to admit, I love the smell of hay (as does Aki the dog) :)
DeleteWhat kind of feed is that?
ReplyDeleteIt's Ranchway Feeds organic poultry layer feed. I've been looking into growing enough this year to make our own feed, which I think would be ideal. But for now this is as local as we can get here (as far as I know).
DeleteThanks! I've been thinking the same thing. I'm looking into finding local feed for the time being. Growing it all this year might be too ambitious for us.
DeleteI agree, it is always nice not to have to run to town because something runs out! Being well stocked, especially for the animals, is always a good feeling! :)
ReplyDeletea WELL STOCKED FEED SHED IS ALWAYS A COMFORTING THING. i AM SO ENVIOUS THAT YOU CAN GET STOCK FEED IN PAPER BAGS. aLL OURS COME IN PLASTICY BAGS.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...it is a good feeling to be prepared. I learned that lesson early on when I became a country girl.
ReplyDeleteBe prepared, I will add that to the list of advice I have been getting. We are getting some chicks this spring, first foray into animals besides dogs.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of Aki :)
How exciting! Yes, "be prepared," which should probably be followed with "expect the unexpected!" ;)
Deletehere! here!
DeleteBeautiful, meaningful images! LOVE your blog as it is very inspirational to see you living the dream!
ReplyDeleteI have such a deep respect for farmers...thank you, Jaime, and all the other "farm-girl" commenters.
ReplyDeleteWe have a small shed that we store our feed in. How do you keep the mice out? I bought one plastic bin because that is what i heard is the best... but it doesn't allow much for stockpiling. We had quite the mouse problem once the temperatures got cold... and we don't have a cat and I'm not ready for one.
ReplyDelete:)
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly! There is tremendous comfort in a well stocked pantry and barn. So many things can interfere with our ability go out last minute (snow, freezing rain, illness, unexpected emergencies, car trouble, financial downturn ~ just to name a few). With animals depending on us, we need to think of them and be prepared just as we do for our family...
ReplyDeleteWe buy a specially made locally grown poultry layer ration and sometimes they are out of stock just when we we are out and in need! We have learned to call from time to time and arrange to pick up a big load when they have a good supply thus ensuring our hens have good feed always on hand.
