some knitted gifts for a winter's baby

One of my sisters-in-law is due to have her first baby in a couple months, and I'm helping host her upcoming shower. Before the flurry of pre-Christmas knitting sweeps me completely away, I wanted to finish a gift set for this sweet winter baby who will be here before we know it. I've had some soft, natural lambswool in my stash for a while, and so that's what I chose for these coordinating handmades.

Click on each item listed below for the link to the pattern I used. I did tweak them just a bit, but the overall concept is the same. If you are new to knitting, or just want some easy, quick baby things to knit up, these items fit the bill perfectly. No fancy stitches, no circular or double-pointed needles. Just the relaxing back and forth of knit and purl.

What are you knitting these days?

  1. Zero. I must learn to knit. My crochet hooks are cold and hidden away. I also must pull them out and warm them up with some creative action! These are SO cute! What a lucky little one!

  4. Thanks, ladies!

Bee Girl, I'd love to see what you crochet! I've yet to learn.

Jode, it's funny, the scarf in this set is what gave me the most trouble! I think it's because of the color changes I decided to do. Notice the rather jagged right edge? Ah well, I figure that's how you can tell it's handmade ;)

Victoria, sewing is so daunting to me! I made it my goal to try and learn this winter on an old machine my mom has in her garage. It's still sitting there though. Scaring me.

  5. Beautiful! This baby is already so loved... Such a wonderful thing to shower the Mama with handmade goodies! I've had a hat for Thatcher on the needles since Spring. Ironically, its a pattern from Last Minute Knitted Gifts! Needless to say, I'm not the speediest knitter. And I just can't figure out the whole knit-while-nursing thing for the life of me...

  6. Sophie, I can't figure out the knit-while-nursing thing either. I have, however, mastered the knit-while-walking-around-with-baby-in-the-backpack thing. Although this must be done indoors under carefully controlled circumstances where there's nothing for me to trip over or run into--meaning I walk around in circles in the kitchen ;)
